Artist’s Statement Being multi-faceted, with many interests, my work is varied. Since childhood, I have been fascinated with the stars and things in the atmosphere, really all things in nature on earth, so this shows up, either figuratively or literally, in my work. After working with enamel on metal for years, it continues to delight me. First attracted to the rich, vibrant beauty and visual depth of color of fired glass on copper, I soon became captivated by the many creative avenues available in the numerous enameling techniques. Wow, something to play with and maybe break a few rules along the way! The enameling options I can choose from are enormous. Working in a variety of sizes and different metals, I will often combine several techniques to get the effect I'm looking for, be it on jewelry, wall pieces, plates or sculpture. As each layer of enamel is applied and fired to permanence, a piece develops a life of it's own, sometimes evolving in surprising ways, so I am always open to work with the unexpected. It's this area of risk and serendipity that intrigues me and challenges my creativity.
